Why do we hold the exhibition?
The end of year exhibition is a celebration of all the students have achieved on their course.
It gives the students the opportunity to showcase their work to a diverse and engaged audience, provides opportunities for networking and self-promotion as well as giving the students the opportunity to learn how to collaboratively curate and install a professional exhibition. It has also enabled the students to take part in Medway Open Studios and Arts Festival, alongside 200 other local artists. They have shared their work with other artists and residents in the local community, made connections and received very positive feedback.
The artists and their work
There is a wide selection of work on display, reflecting the diversity of our student population. This provides examples of what can be expected when reviewing their portfolios, which will help them to secure work or a place at university.
You will see photography, graphic design, fine art, sculpture, installation, digital media, and textiles. This body of work is the result of undertaking research and practical experiments, investigating materials and techniques and developing their ideas and skills throughout their 10-week final major project. Inspiration ranges from personal experiences and cultural heritage to the political and fantastical.
Creating opportunities
As a result of studying and exhibiting at Medway School of Arts the students have received commissions from Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust and have held exhibitions at The Historic Dockyard, The Halpern Gallery and MidKent College.
They have also secured creative work with local employers and have been asked to put forward proposals to develop their concept ideas into tangible products and exhibitions.
