Course Description

This Apprenticeship will help take your on-the-job skills to an advanced level. You will work alongside an experienced tradesperson to develop your new skills and attend College one day per week to learn the theoretical side of your trade.

During the 12 months duration the apprentice, employer and college will work together to ensure that the apprentice is demonstrating the required Knowledge Skills and Behaviours (KSB) Before taking their final assessments

Apprentices will cover the following topics training topics:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Construction Industry and Built Environment
  • Planning Pricing and Communication
  • Fundamentals of Site Carpentry
  • Form Advanced Woodworking Joints
  • Carry Out Complex Structural Carcassing Work
  • Carry Out Complex First Fixing Work
  • Carry Out Complex Second Fixing Work
  • Install and Maintain Structural and Non-structural Carpentry Components

    The End Point Assessment consists of three separate tests:

  • Multiple Choice Knowledge test
  • Professional discussion
  • Practical test

    In addition the apprentice will be required to produce a portfolio of work based evidence and this will be used for the professional discussion and must have achieved a level 2 in Maths and English.

Other Important Information

> Some of your training will be College-based, and include developing your practical skills in the workshop, as well as theory sessions related to your work
> All students must provide their own personal protective equiment at College to study Site Carpentry
> The end-point assessment consists of two key elements. The knowledge assessment consists of 40 questions designed to assess your understanding of the specific knowledge and behavioural requirements, while the practical assessment is a skills test.

Future Prospects

Achievement of the Level 3 Advanced Site Carpentry will enable the apprentice to work in a supervisor roll or progression onto a level 4 Construction course.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have:

> Employment within the sector with a contract of employment for at least 30 hours per week
> 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at minimum grade C or 4 and above
and
> Successuful Completion of the Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeship Standard
