• What will I learn?

Available at our Maidstone Campus, these programmes will enable you to deliver excellent customer service and launch your career by studying topics including cruise operations, European and UK destinations, marketing and online safety. Find out the difference between a Travel & Tourism course and a study programme below.

Depending on the level and type of programme you undertake, you may complete units in cruise operations, European destinations, UK destinations, marketing, aviation and airline operations, airline safety and security, crew room duties, airline emergency procedures, the business of travel and tourism, customer service, communication and more.

You'll be able to progress further by learning about crew room duties, emergency procedures and customer service at public events. You may also have the opportunity to become part of MidKent Airways!

      • Why choose a MidKent College Travel & Tourism study programme?

There's plenty of practical experience in real-life situations and roles on these programmes. You can test your skills and confidence working at events or on work placement as you work towards your qualification.

You'll be able to test your skills at public events and in our fully equipped aircraft passenger cabin.

      • How is English & maths involved?

If you're aged 16 to 18 years old, English and maths will be a key part of your study programme. You'll study both subjects at a level which is appropriate to you. Good communication and a head for numbers are a real advantage when working with people.

      • What facilities and trips are available?

Test your skills by getting involved in frontline events and working in various locations. You'll see behind the scenes at British Airways, Virgin Airlines and Heathrow. Students have also undertaken training in lifesaving, how to cope in a hostage situation and first aid.

You'll improve your communication, leadership and teamwork skills in our brand new cabin too!

      • What have your past students gone on to do?

Travel and Tourism students have headed all over the world gaining employment with huge airlines like British Airways and EasyJet. Others have found themselves working in travel agencies, hotels and events.

      • What can I do afterwards?

You'll have the opportunity to become a flight attendant, travel consultant or tour operator. Have you thought about becoming a resort representative, event manager or hotel manager?

      • What’s the difference between a Travel & Tourism course and a study programme?

Traditionally you may have studied a Travel & Tourism course, where you would only study the qualification, such as customer service, emergency procedures and marketing. A Travel & Tourism study programme is so much more than a Travel & Tourism course!

This change to study programmes is due to national feedback from employers saying young people need to have more than just a “qualification”; they need to have the skills to work in their chosen industry. A study programme encompasses the subject qualification, English and maths skills as well as work experience and personal development skills. You can read more about study programmes here.
