Music Production & Performance

• • • What will I learn?

      Depending on the level and type of programme you complete, you may develop a range of performance-related skills, including those in harmony, arranging and composition. You will also develop a greater understanding of the music business. Programmes in Music Technology also cover components in music publishing, composing, midi sequencing and software, sound recording techniques and many more! We'll also work to improve your English and maths skills too, so you'll be ready to progress into further study or employment after completing your programme.

      Our lecturers are all industry professionals and are the best people to advise you on your next step, whether that's further study or employment. College bands showcase their talent at many external events such as Under Siege and the annual College Student Awards ceremony. Our Music students also take part in a whole range of performances, from turning on the Christmas lights in Rochester to at local gigs. We also won gold in the music category at the World Skills competition!

    • How is English & maths involved?

      If you're aged 16-18 years old, English and maths will be a key part of your study programme. You'll study both subjects at a level appropriate to you. There skills can enhance your work on and off stage, in production, writing and give you the opportunity to progress into higher education or the music business.

    • What have your past students gone on to do?

      Successful Music students have progressed onto further study at local and national universities. Others have entered employment in the local area.

    • What can I do afterwards?

      There's a whole range of options available to you from musician and composer to sound technician and music therapist. If you discuss your career ideas with your tutor, they'll be best placed to advise you on the best way to achieve it.

    • What facilities and trips are available?

      Develop your talent in our recording studios, a fully equipped theatre and live room at the Medway Campus. You'll have the opportunity to take part in trips to a range of music venues and theatres.

    • What’s the difference between a Music Production course and a study programme?

      Traditionally you may have studied a Music course, where you would only study the qualification, such as music performance, composition and sound recording techniques. A Music Production & Performance study programme is so much more than a Music course!

      This change to study programmes is due to national feedback from employers saying young people need to have more than just a “qualification”; they need to have the skills to work in their chosen industry. A study programme encompasses the subject qualification, English and maths skills as well as work experience and personal development skills. You can read more about study programmes here.
