Plumbing, Heating & Gas

• • • We offer a range of different Plumbing & Heating study programmes to suit your skill level and desired line of work studying full-time or as a part-time Plumbing course.

      We work closely with local employers, suppliers and Summit Skills (the Skills Sector Council for Building Services Engineering) to ensure our Plumbing and Gas training course qualifications meet employer needs and standards.

    • What will I learn?

      Your Plumbing studies will include areas such as safety, installation, maintenance and regulations, to ensure you are fully equipped to enter the construction industry upon successful completion of your training course. Depending on the level and type of course you complete, you may learn how to carry out practical tasks including technical installations such as hot and cold water sanitation, weatherings, bathroom, heating and plumbing systems. Higher-level Plumbing and heating programmes cover water regulations, building regulations, gas regulations, unvented hot water and heating.

      Our programmes cover a range of areas that will be applicable to your career as a plumber. You’ll learn from industry professionals who’ll be able to give you advice and guidance on how to enter the construction industry, whether as an employee or owning your own business.

    • How is English & maths involved?

      If you’re aged 16 to 18 years old, English and maths will be a part of your study programme. You will study both subjects at a level which is appropriate to you. You’ll then have the confidence and knowledge to measure distances and sizes, and communicate with customers effectively.

    • What facilities and trips are available?

      We regularly send our students to see work put into practice in the plumbing industry. You’ll also visit trade shows, gain work experience and attend work-ready interviews to hone your employability skills.

    • What have your past students gone on to do?

      Many successful students have progressed into local employment or an apprenticeship. Others have chosen to progress to building services engineering courses or advanced gas training courses.

    • What can I do afterwards?

      Successful completion of a programme will give you the opportunity to become an air conditioning engineer, a heating engineer or gas servicer. Why not consider becoming a plumber, kitchen fitter or ventilation engineer?

    • What’s the difference between a Plumbing course and a study programme?

      Traditionally you may have studied a Plumbing course, where you would only study the qualification, such as gas regulations, heating and health and safety. A Plumbing, Heating & Gas study programme is so much more than a Plumbing course!

      This change to study programmes is due to national feedback from employers saying young people need to have more than just a “qualification”; they need to have the skills to work in their chosen industry.
