Animal Management

• • • What will I learn?

      You’ll learn the theoretical knowledge and practical application skills that employers are looking for. You’ll also develop your ideas about conservation, breeding and anatomy. Our level 3 Animal Management study programmes can take you all the way to university, if that is what you wish. You could specialise in environmental sustainability by furthering your knowledge in the use of resources and the impact on our planet, human behaviour and ecology.

    • Why choose a MidKent College Animal Management study programme? 

      Many members of the teaching team are also actively involved in caring for animals and ensuring their welfare. They will be able to provide you with the most up-to-date industry knowledge, and guide your career progression route.

    • How is English & maths involved?

      If you’re aged 16-18 years old English and maths will be a vital part of your study programme. You will study both subjects at a level which is appropriate to you. You’ll need these skills to produce reports and papers, or accurately measure an animal’s medicine.

    • What can I do afterwards?

      There is a vast range of career opportunities available to you from a veterinary nurse, animal behaviourist to marine biologist or environmental manager! Our tutors will talk you through your options, and the best programmes to achieve your goal.

    • What have past students gone on to do?

      Our students have progressed into roles including veterinary nursing, canine hydrotherapy, animal care technicians, conservationists, zookeepers…and many more!

    • What facilities are available?

      You’ll have access to three very diverse and extensive animal rooms containing an exotics collection, mammal collection and aquatics room. You'll take part in visits to South Africa, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales and the New Forest. Enrichment activities will also include the Natural History Museum, Eagle Heights and the Aspinall Foundation attractions to name just a few!

    • What’s the difference between an Animal Management course and a study programme?

      Traditionally you may have studied an Animal Management course, where you would only study the qualification, such as animal behaviour, conservation issues or anatomy. An Animal Management study programme is so much more than an Animal Management course!

      This change to study programmes is due to national feedback from employers saying young people need to have more than just a “qualification”; they need to have the skills to work in their chosen industry. A study programme encompasses the subject qualification, English and maths skills as well as work experience and personal development skills.
