      • By studying Multi-Trade construction with MidKent College, you will study in our purpose-built workshops with our construction industry experienced lecturers learning not only the key practical skills but also health and safety and how to look after your tools.

After successfully completing your Multi-Trade training, you’ll be able to start your career in construction, specialise in one trade at a higher level or enter a construction apprenticeship programme.

      • What will I learn?

The Multi-Trades study programme includes a variety of construction trade areas including brickworkplumbingcarpentry and joinery, tiling, plastering and painting and decorating. You’ll cover the basics in each, and improve your practical skills before progressing to specialise in one trade.

Health and safety, as well as English and maths, will also be a key part of your studies.

      • Why choose a MidKent College Multi-Trades study programme?

Our Multi-Trades study programmes are suitable for those looking to enter the construction industry but aren’t sure which trade suits them best. The programmes are also for professionals in the industry, who may want to diversify their trade skillset.

      • How is English and maths involved?

If you’re aged 16-18, English and maths will be a part of your multi-trades study programme. You’ll need to be confident quoting for work, as well as measuring and ordering materials.

      • What facilities are available?

You'll use our well-equipped workshop facilities at our Maidstone and Medway campuses. Tutors will create you a range of different scenarios to test your skills. This could include everything from plastering walls to applying skirting around tricky fireplaces or fitting a kitchen - everything to prepare you for industry!

You'll also gain experience on community projects, on site visits and during your industry placement.

      • Is an apprenticeship available?

There is a wide range of apprenticeships available in the construction trades industry including Bench Joinery, Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating, Site Carpentry and Construction.

You’ll spend one day a week at College learning the key skills required, before putting them into practice with your employer at work.

      • What can I do afterwards?

You’ll gain the confidence to either take your studying further and specialise in a particular trade, become employed within the industry or further your career pathway by becoming a building services engineer, civil engineer or quantity surveyor after a few years of experience. Our lecturers will help you with your career aim, and the best route for you.
