The College is closed and will re-open to students on Monday 6 January 2025. We will respond to your emails and voicemails upon our return. Happy holidays 🎄✨

      • You'll learn the essentials of working within the public services. This includes working as part of a team, how to manage your time and to communicate well. You'll also be given the opportunity to meet industry professionals and practice the skills you learn in mock emergencies and realistic scenarios.

      • What will I learn?

Our highly qualified and experienced tutors will educate you in employment within the uniformed public services, health and fitness, career planning, teamwork, driving and the law.

Higher-level programmes cover government and politics, leadership and teamwork, citizenship and diversity, understanding discipline, and fitness testing and training.

You’ll also experience the fitness tests required by the uniformed public services. Specialist instructors will visit the College to deliver and assess these.

      • Why choose a MidKent College Public Services study programme?

We are an RAF ‘platinum partner’ as we have been recognised for the quality of the candidates recruited through the College!

You’ll learn how to play your part in a team, manage your time and communicate well. Meet the professionals and practice with them for emergencies.

      • How is English & maths involved?

If you’re aged 16 to 18 years old, English and maths will be a key part of your study programme. You will study both at a level which is appropriate to you. You’ll need to feel confident relaying instructions and analysing situations.

      • What have your past students gone on to do?

Students have progressed to employment in areas such as the Kent Special Constabulary, police force, RAF, rehabilitation centres and nursing. Others have progressed onto university courses after completing the HND at the College.

      • What can I do afterwards?

There is a whole range of options available to you from police officer to the fire service or a paramedic. Have you considered becoming part of the armed forces or a prison or security guard?

      • What facilities and trips are available?

The department has organised trips to Wales, Cornwall, Italy and France that have involved outdoor activities, counter terrorism, police work experience, prison visits, police riot training and visiting Ward Security, the British Army and Royal Marines activity days!

Dog handlers, the emergency services, the Armed Forces and Holocaust survivors all visit students to share their experiences.

      • What’s the difference between Public Services courses and study programmes?

Traditionally you may have studied a Public Services course, where you would only study the qualification, such as health and fitness, teamwork and the law. A Public Services study programme is so much more than a Public Services course!

This change to study programmes is due to national feedback from employers saying young people need to have more than just a “qualification”; they need to have the skills to work in their chosen industry. A study programme encompasses the subject qualification, English and maths skills as well as work experience and personal development skills. You can read more about study programmes here.
