Course Description

Overview.

Our Level 2 Hairdressing programme is a perfect introduction to one of the fastest-growing sectors in the South East. You'll develop an understanding of underpinning Hairdressing theory and apply them as you build a fantastic set of practical skills that will prepare you for your career. You will train in modern, fully-equipped salons, using the same equipment and tools you can expect to use in the workplace. 

What is covered.

You will study a range of units, with topics including:
>Working safely in the Hairdressing salon
>The correct way to shampoo, condition and treat hair
>You will be advising and consulting with clients, learning the basics in cutting and colouring, setting and dressing hair along side styling hair using electrical equipment
>IT Skills and standard Office software

Assessment method.

You will be assessed on your practical skills throughout the year and complete graded assessments at the end of each unit. You will also complete two online theory exams. The final exam will consist of a synoptic practical exam.


Other Important Information

You will need to purchase two tunics which have been selected as the 'Hairdressing' college uniform, this will be available at a discounted price and ordered directly from our uniform partners. You will also need to purchase a black pair of trousers or good quality black leggings and a pair of black closed in, loafer type shoes.

All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a Work Placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Future Prospects

Successful students may progress onto a level 3 course or into employment in the hair design industry. Some may also take up an apprenticeship providing they find appropriate employment in a salon.

Four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, including English or maths at grade D/3 or above.
