Course Description

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a hairdresser/stylist including the mandatory units which include, working in the hair industry, health and safety, client consultation, shampoo and conditioning hair, cutting women's hair and the art of dressing hair, colouring and lightening hair, display and promote stock and services, crate an image.

You will learn through theory and practical sessions and you will undertake written and practical exams. Working on external clientele to complete your practical assessments

You will need to purchase a uniform which has been selected as the 'Hairdressing' college uniform, this will be available at a discounted price and ordered directly from our uniform partners. You will also need to purchase a black pair of trousers and a pair of black closed in shoes.

All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a work placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Future Prospects

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare you for employment, you may choose to further develop your skill base by undertaking specialist qualifications at Level 3, including:

  • VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing
  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies

    Successful students may progress onto a Level 3 course or into employment in the hair design industry. Some may also take up an apprenticeship providing they find appropriate employment in a salon.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above,this has to including English or maths at grade C/4 or above.
