Congratulations to CIPD apprentice Sarah for being this month's apprentice of the month! She chose the CIPD programme at MidKent College because it enabled her to touch base with all aspects of HR and develop her understanding of how each area works together. Could you be an apprentice?

Sarah is studying the CIPD course and is an apprentice at Knauf. Her manager there, Riki Banfield, said: “Sarah has really flourished over the last six months or so, and she is a joy to work with and mentor. Sarah is not only a great student, but she is also a great teacher. She is only too happy to help me when I’m struggling with technology! She is an avid listener, and it’s great to see her gaining in confidence as her knowledge grows. She provides valuable input at meetings and has shown confidence in challenging the managers in a constructive way. “

Sarah was nominated apprentice of the month by her lecturer, Carl Wickham-Downes, who said: “The role of an HR practitioner requires a wide range of skills and competencies. Sarah has worked hard on developing these during her apprenticeship programme. She has produced both class-based and work-based evidence of a consistently high standard which has resulted in her making steady progress towards her end point assessment. Sarah has come a long way during her apprenticeship, her confidence has grown hugely, and she is now actively involved in a broad range of HR employee relations related activities.”

She said: “It also allowed me to discover for myself which area I enjoyed the most without neglecting any knowledge from other parts of the whole function. This programme gave me the opportunity to work towards my Level 3 CIPD qualification as well as my Level 3 in HR Support. This apprenticeship has geared me in the right direction to becoming a confident HR advisor in a few years. I enjoyed the networking opportunity with others also studying the same qualification who worked in different industries. Being apprentice of the month makes me reflect on how much I have achieved in the last 18 months.”
