This week we're celebrating Women in Construction Week, a fantastic opportunity to highlight the growing number of women who are making their mark in the construction industry.

Once considered a male-dominated field, construction is now seeing more and more women take on roles across all areas, from hands-on trades to project management, engineering, and design.

In the UK, women now make up around 13% of the construction workforce, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). While this is still a smaller proportion compared to men, it’s a great increase from previous years, showing that more women are getting involved. Women are also rising to leadership roles – 14% of senior positions in construction, such as project managers and site managers, are now held by women, as reported by Build UK. This number continues to grow, with more women proving that they can thrive in the construction industry.

At MidKent College, we are proud to support women who want to build careers in construction. We offer a variety of courses to help you develop the skills needed for success, whether you’re interested in hands-on trade skills or roles like construction management and engineering. View the full list of courses here.

It's also great to see the number of women studying construction is also on the rise. Around 25% of students in construction-related degree programmes in the UK are women, according to the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). This shows that more women are not only considering construction as a career but are actively taking steps to make it a reality.

As we celebrate Women in Construction Week, we encourage more women to explore the many opportunities in the industry. At MidKent College, we offer a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone has the chance to succeed. Whether you’re just starting your journey or looking to take your skills to the next level, we’re here to help you build a successful future in construction.
