Did you know there are more than 350 different jobs within Health & Social Care? Most people know the obvious roles such as nurse, midwife or social worker, but how about health visitor, art therapist or victim support officer? So why should you consider a career in this diverse sector?
We’ve got four great reasons to help you make up your mind!
1. You’ll be in demand
Health & Social Care is a growing sector. The NHS advertises up to 25,000 job opportunities each month* and is the world’s biggest employer of skilled staff with around 1.26 million full-time employees currently – an increase of 4.4% on 2022.** Of course, you don't have to work for the NHS, you'll also find roles in the private sector and with local authorities, care homes and charities.
If you’ve got the right training, skills and attitude, you’ll be snapped up!
2. Every day is different
If you like variety, then you’re in luck. Every day is guaranteed to be different when you are dealing with the public – you'll be meeting with different patients/clients with various needs and requirements each day. You’ll see first-hand how individuals and families are impacted by issues such as mental health, drug and alcohol misuse and poverty and deprivation.
3. It’s rewarding
You can make a real difference to people’s lives by supporting them through illness, injury or ill-treatment. Seeing how your skills and commitment have made an improvement to a vulnerable client or patient will make for high levels of job satisfaction.
4. You can climb the career ladder
With such a huge variety of roles available, there’ll be loads of opportunities for you to upskill and progress to the next level in your particular field, or retrain for a different pathway. With lots of continuing training and support you’ll be able to specialise and find your niche!
