We have heard some great news from one of our students due to leave us this summer. Harry Smith, who is in his final year of Level 3 Construction and the Built Environment, has been shortlisted for a Quest scholarship from the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
QUEST, ICE’s flagship scholarship and member support programme, is open to students starting a full-time civil engineering degree course in autumn 2018. Last year 75 civil engineering students benefited from QUEST help with their studies. The scholarships offer funding of up to £10,000 over the duration of the course and paid holiday work placements.
Harry said “I received an email from UCAS about the opportunity. I completed an application and I have been lucky enough to be shortlisted from over 300 applications – I have an interview on Friday 7 September and I am really looking forward to it!”.
There are 17 sponsorship companies and Harry had to select the five companies with whom he would like to work with. Most are consultancy practices within the civil engineering sector and all have London bases. The sponsorship is up to £10,000 with paid work experience whilst at university. At the end of the degree there are job opportunities and the opportunity for progression within the civil engineering sector.
Harry added “I am off to study Civil Engineering at the University of Greenwich. My parents are very supportive and really excited for me. I am moving into a totally different sector to any of my family and they are especially proud as I am predicted straight distinctions. I am really looking forward to the interview and the future”.
We wish Harry the very best of luck. If you'd like to follow in Harry's footsteps in studying Construction & the Built Environment, click here.
