Students from across the College, including Sport, Public Services and Travel & Tourism, journeyed to Seville, Spain, to complete a range of industry placements while living independently.

Many worked as receptionists for hotels and hostels, as tour guides or for bike and Segway companies. They also experienced the culture of Seville with tours and visits, and took Spanish language lessons to be able to communicate effectively during their placements. Living in apartments ensured that students also improved their independent living skills too as they had to complete household tasks and cook for themselves.

Travel & Tourism students said “We definitely improved our customer service skills, and tried to build a rapport with our customers. On our days off we visited the cathedral and the Royal Alcazar gardens and took note of how the customer service was offered while there.

We would all highly recommend this experience and would definitely do it again. We learnt so much including valuable industry skills. We can definitely use the skills we learnt in Spain in our future work.”

Travel & Tourism lecturer Lisa Russell said “The industry placements that our students complete are invaluable as they were able to put into practice the communication, teamwork and customer service skills they learn at College into a workplace setting. These key skills can then applied in any position they progress into after achieving their College qualification.

Our close links with local, national and international employers ensures that our students are inspired to consider a range of career options, which will be useful to all when considering their future employment.”
