Course Description

This apprenticeship will extend your on-the-job training and further develop your vehicle maintenance skills to an advanced level. You will be employed by a garage or dealership and work alongside an experienced tradesperson to further develop and practise your new skills.

You will also attend College for one day a week for support and to learn the higher technical side of your trade. This apprenticeship covers practical and theory content including the diagnosis of modern complex motor vehicle systems and their faults such as brakes, steering and suspension, electrical and inspection.

You will also learn about employers’ rights and responsibilities, and we will work with you to develop your IT, English and maths skills.

Other Important Information

The end-point assessment consists of three parts; an Online Knowledge Test, a Practical Skills Test and a Professional Discussion.

Future Prospects

On completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice will have satisfied the requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician by the relevant professional engineering institution in accordance with the requirements of the Engineering Council as the registration body.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have:

> Employment within the sector with a contract of employment for at least 30 hours per week
> 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at minimum grade C or 4 and above (Candidates who completed study overseas and are now working in the UK may also be eligible. Please contact us to discuss your application).
> Satisfactory completion of the college initial assessment
