English skills are highly valued by employers and they are required to a good standard for anyone wanting to go on to university. The gold standard for demonstrating that anyone has a good grasp of English across the UK and internationally is GCSE level. We have long provided adult students with another go at these key “gateway” qualifications for anyone who missed out the first time.
While studying for these qualifications with us you will gain confidence in your own level of English, working towards the qualification that all employers and universities recognise.
For English GCSE you will learn how to read various types of fiction and non-fiction texts: how they are structured, why they are effective and how to “infer” the meanings the writers are trying to put across. You will gain confidence as a reader and be equipped to confidently tackle any text given to you in level 3 and 4 study or at work.
In addition you will develop soft communication skills such as working in a team, presentations, arguing and debating a point effectively, identifying evidence and explaining clearly what you mean. Also you will develop writing skills for different purposes such as describing, narrating, arguing, persuading and explaining. Whatever anyone asks you to do with communication, you will be able to adapt and deliver an effective piece of writing or speaking and listening.
All employers ask for better English skills for their workforce and an English and GCSE is the quickest and most effective way to improve your employability skills. It could also lead on to our Level 3 Access programme.
