Course Description

Overview.

The Level 3 Diploma qualifications are Technical Level Qualifications (TLQs) included in the DFE 2018 performance tables for technical and vocational qualifications. These unique qualifications are tailored to specific job roles making them an attractive choice for both learners and employers. Upon completion, learners will gain an overall qualification grade of either Pass, Merit. Distinction or Distinction *. Grades will also be given at unit level giving employers an insight to the strengths of each learner. You will train in modern, fully-equipped salons, using the same equipment and tools you can expect to use in the workplace.

What is covered.

You will study a range of units including:
>Health and Safety
>Hairdressing Consultation
>Blow-drying and Finishing
>Creative Hair Colouring
>Creative Hair Cutting
>Setting and Dressing Hair
>Colour Correction
IT Skills and standard Office software

Assessment method.

You will be assessed on your practical skills throughout the year and complete graded assessments at the end of each unit. You will also complete two online theory exams. The final exam will consist of a synoptic practical exam.

Other Important Information

You will need to purchase two tunics which have been selected as the 'Hairdressing' college uniform, this will be available at a discounted price and ordered directly from our uniform partners. You will also need to purchase a black pair of trousers or good quality black leggings and a pair of black closed in, loafer type shoes.

All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a Work Placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Future Prospects

You will be eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH). You could progress onto a specialist qualification at Level 4.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and maths at grade C/4 or above.
