Course Description

Throw on your apron, tie back your hair and take your first steps towards a career in the hotel and catering industry.

This programme will teach you basic cookery methods and food and beverage service skills. You'll be practicing your skills with soups, fish and chips, bread rolls, stir fries, carrot cake and more! You'll also have the opportunity to enter competitions, learn tips and be set challenges from a range of industry speakers, and gain inspiration for your own dishes with visits to Billingsgate Fish Market, Borough Market, Paris, Seville and the HRC trade show.

You will also be given help to develop your personal presentation, communication and social skills. We'll also help to improve your English and maths skills too - so important for your future career!

Practical work experience will also be provided in one of the College's restaurants.

Other Important Information

You will need to purchase a Chef's uniform, as well as scales and knives. Your uniform and equipment must be purchased through our preferred supplier. Full details will be provided at enrolment.

Future Prospects

The aim of this course is to enable all students to progress towards level 2 and eventually into employment within the hospitality and catering industry. Some students may also progress to an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 2/F or above, including English or maths.
