Since starting College I’ve learnt a mixture of things such as husbandry, animal behaviour and how to take care of exotic animals. So, it’s more like the basic needs of animals and their health so for example if you want to become a vet it can help you become a vet.
My favourite part is the practical side as I’m a more hands-on person, so I do much better when I do work experience. So, this helps me out a lot more and I look forward to it every week.
I chose MidKent College as they offer things no other College offer like the practical side, so I’m really glad I came here. They offer me the help and support I need in class.
Whilst at College I had to do a work experience assignment in a pet shop and one of my friends did it there too, so it was enjoyable and good to do it together.
One of the guest speakers we had was the Big Cat Sanctuary, they came and spoke to us, they did a whole day and told us about everything that they do. They brought enrichment in that they use, so that was really good.
My tutors have prepared me for my future career by completing a work experience assignment meaning we had to go into an actual workplace so that was good. Our tutors also set us tasks and assignments that are based on the animal industry. They do set you up for the future and help you decide.
I’m not entirely sure what I want to do after this course, I have mixed ideas but definitely in the animal industry.
I would 100% recommend this course to other students, I think the tutors are very helpful and understanding. They’ve really helped me to stay on task. Also, the practical side, if you don’t have experience with animals, they teach you how to handle them safely which has been really useful.
I jumped straight into level 3 and didn’t do level 1 and 2 so found it a lot of hard work. Level 3 helps you with more university and to feel more prepared but it’s totally worth it.
