MidKent College is a main training provider for the military students in vocational and higher education as well, hence it was my preferred choice as my background is also military. I joined a Professional Engineering Wing (PEW) as a mechanical building services engineering lecturer. As part of my teaching role, I have to complete this programme.
So far, I have covered five modules: Intro to teaching and learning, enhancing teaching and learning, the learner and learner progress, reflecting on practice, and innovation in the curriculum.
All of the learning is equally important, there is no low or high value in my view. All are key elements for the teaching profession and these help to shine and hone existing knowledge and skills on teaching and learning. I really liked reflecting on practice, and Innovation in the Curriculum, which are intense but worthwhile to have this knowledge to prepare for changing circumstances.
My tutor is very pragmatic in delivering lessons with flexibility to incorporate any adjustments needed to meet our requirements due to the external changes. My tutor delivers lessons with creative group discussion session with collaboration at the right level.
In my open and honest view, I strongly recommend my colleagues to complete this course prior to taking up a teaching role. Knowledge from this course will massively ease the pressure and lessons would be delivered with the right information at the right level. Also, being able to plan for innovative and most engaging lessons will improve the quality of learning. There is a saying, ‘a man can be a great scientist but could not teach science.’ This course helps us be a better teacher.
