MidKent College seemed human. They took the time to listen to what I needed and were willing to help. I had a bumpy start, as I wanted to go with another university in London because it was a 1-year course, but they messed up my admission. They had forgotten all about me. When I explained my situation to MidKent College, not only were they willing to listen, but they also straight away came up with a strategy to help me. I cannot praise them enough.
The College has been amazing from day one. Jacqui Clark, my mentor, listened to me, got in touch, answered all my questions and guided me through the process.
I have learned to put the student first. This is what my lecturer is doing every day, she is my role-model and the reason why I want to do so well as a teacher and pass on the passion of the subject to my students, the same way she does.
My favourite part so far is the practice. This course is so practical, my parents are teachers, my husband used to teach Biology, I have been surrounded by teachers all my life, and have had so many examples. This course has taught me the benefits of an active learning strategy, student-centred lessons and humanistic approach. I am a very empathic person and before this course I used to think it is not a strength, it was lovely to meet people just like me.
Our mentors keep in touch periodically. They have had a conversation with us, individually, when we first started and found out what are plans are and built a strategy with us. They catch up with us regularly, to see if we are still on track.
My mentor, Jacqui Clark, is the most intelligent, caring, empathic person I have ever met. She is making her students her priority and shares the passion of being a teacher with us. She is also a role model of how we should look like at the other end of the table. I absolutely adore her. Ann Cowie is also a pleasure to work with, she has come twice to meet us and guide us, which is really nice. We did not know a lot about her, so the pressure was on, as she comes from Canterbury Christ Church University (the main academic body involved in our course), however she is so nice, easy to talk to and such a professional lady. She gives you the confidence to approach her about anything really.
If anybody wants to take on a course where you, your expectations, aptitudes, and career will be the most important thing to the college, by all means apply for the DIP course in Education and Training.
