I want to achieve my ambition of supporting young people to achieve their goals. So far, we have learnt about the various methods of teaching and how this can be used in our settings; as well as strategies for behaviour management and the theorists who have impacted the way we teach.
My favourite part so far was the micro-teach; for this we had to perform a micro-teach to our peers about a topic of our choice using resources like PowerPoint, Microsoft Word and Word Wall. My chosen topic was Henry VIII and his six wives, as well as performing a micro-teach we also supported our class mates with theirs. Some of the micro-teaches included how fingerprints are taken, we even got to have a go with a fingerprinting kit, how to make a paper aeroplane and how to read a map correctly.
The course is fully supported by our tutor Jacqui, who is approachable and understanding, she also manages to keep me engaged after a day at work and her lessons are great examples of different teaching techniques. We have observations by both our tutor and mentor, and during these we speak about the best methods of teaching for our setting as well as ways we could improve our teaching practice.
Jacqui is a supportive tutor who has a wide knowledge of theorists, learning theories and how to put these into practice.’
When I signed up, I remember being hesitant because I was unsure how to fit studying into my already busy life. But it is the best thing I have done.
