I chose MidKent College because I wanted to get straight into a trade within the motor industry and was keen to get into the practical work. I didn’t want to sit in a classroom and do lots of exams at the end.

I think learning at College is incredible, it’s so much better for your mental health. I feel very supported, and things feel more consistent. I like that practical side of learning.

On the programme we've covered basic servicing and maintenance, brakes and health and safety. I didn't have any mechanical  knowledge beforehand so was starting from scratch, but I did have GCSE English & Maths at grade 4 and over.

Alongside College I work part-time at the weekends for a car parts company who supply garages which is really good experience and helps me build my knowledge of vehicles, tools and car parts.

My next step is an apprenticeship with Halfords Autocentre. I will be coming back to College one day a week next year to complete my Level 3 which I'm really excited about.

My advice to anyone in year 11 thinkig about coming to College is - do it, come to College. Don’t stress too much and apply sooner rather than later!
