I am currently studying the T Level in Construction Design, Planning and Surveying and am in my second year. My employer is Janson Projects and we mainly work in and around London.
During my work placement I mainly shadow the Project Manager of the company which helps me to learn the ins and outs of the projects and how to complete them to the best of my ability. Sometimes I am able to be very hands on and am left alone to complete some of the daily tasks that a Project Manager would usually carry out.
What I enjoy most about the T Level is the huge variety of things that are taught on the programme – this means that each day is unique. The fact that we get big companies like Leica to come in and demonstrate the latest surveying equipment for large sites and how to correctly use them is brilliant.
My work placement is vital to my learning. It allows me to take the skills that I’ve learnt in college and carry them out on site and show my experience first-hand. I feel like if my work placement wasn’t in place I wouldn’t have learnt and perfected half of the stuff that I know to this date.
Once I finish my course I am planning on doing a degree apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying with one of the large main contractors in London.
