Congratulations to Construction apprentices Rich and Rob for being our apprentices of the month for November! We caught up with tutor Charlotte Brown to see how she felt about their achievement:
“Rich Tourney and Rob Ehren work for the Environment Agency, and are developing their skills further since completing the Level 3 in Construction and the Built Environment programme with the Level 4 Apprenticeship in Construction Site Engineering Technician.
In the first year of their studies they achieved Engineering Technician status, and have not only been excelling in their studies, but have also been able to discuss civil engineering aspects of their own role with the class. They are not only fantastic ambassadors for the College, but the Environment Agency as well.”
Read what students Rob and Rich think about their apprenticeships and time at College:
Rob said “This apprenticeship is helping me to expand my knowledge in the field and produce a higher standard of work. I am learning new skills that are improving my surveying skills and making me more valuable in the working world.
Rich said “Currently studying as a civil engineering technician is proving highly beneficial for my current job role within the Environment Agency. Learning surveying is helping me to understand the complexity of various aspects of my day-to-day work.”
I have made lots of contacts and friends during my time at College. My time at the College has helped me to achieve a qualification in Construction in the Built Environment and achieve a membership to ICE which is a recognition of my professional standard.”
Rob’s manager at the Environment Agency said:
“The level of work Robert is producing is very impressive and I am happy to see him progress and achieve so much. I think that the apprentice programme is a great idea as it enables people to achieve academic levels that they may not be able to achieve otherwise.”
Rich’s manager concurred:
“Richard has been doing amazing work on a daily basis, out and about in the catchment, reviewing issues and pulling together projects to mitigate flood risk for residents as well as keeping on top of his family obligations and studies. He is doing a fantastic job balancing everything.”
Well done to you both!
