T Levels are a new kind of qualification designed for 16-18-year-olds. They’re equivalent to three A Levels and focus on a mix of classroom learning and real-world work experience. Each course is developed with input from employers, so it’s tailored to meet the needs of the industry.
We offer the following T Levels here at MidKent College:
- Animal Care & Management
- Construction – Design, Surveying & Planning
- Digital – Digital Support Services
- Education & Childcare – Assisted Teaching & Early Years Educator Pathways
- Health – Health & Social Care
- Science – Applied Science
You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on a placement, gaining at last 45 days of work experience. T-Levels ensure you develop both the knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in your future career.
Why Choose a T Level?
Here are some key benefits of studying a T Level:
- Direct route to careers or Higher Education:
T Levels are designed to prepare you for work, an apprenticeship, or university. They provide the technical knowledge and skills employers are looking for.
- Real work experience:
The 45-day placement gives you hands-on experience in the workplace, helping you stand out when applying for jobs or further study.
- Recognised by employers and universities:
T Levels are highly regarded by employers and carry UCAS points, so you can still apply to university if that’s your goal.
- Focused learning:
If you know what industry you’re interested in, T Levels offer a deep dive into that subject without the need to balance unrelated subjects like you would with A Levels.
How Do T Levels Compare to A Levels and BTECs?
- T Levels vs. A Levels:
A Levels are academic and often focus on theory. They’re great if you want to keep your options open or pursue a traditional university route. T Levels, on the other hand, are more practical and focused on preparing you for specific careers.
- T Levels vs. BTECs:
Like BTECs, T Levels are vocational. However, T Levels include more rigorous assessments and a longer work placement. If you want a strong balance of study and hands-on experience, T Levels might suit you better.
Is a T Level Right for You?
Choose a T Level if:
- You have a clear career path in mind.
- You prefer practical learning over purely academic study.
- You’re excited about gaining real-world work experience alongside your studies.
Could a T Level be for me?
T Levels are an excellent option for students who want to get a head start in their chosen career or keep the door open for university. With a mix of classroom learning and practical experience, they’re an effective way to bridge the gap between learning and the workplace.
Still unsure? Speak to a careers advisor at your school or here at the College to explore if T Levels fit your goals.
