Congratulations to Hospitality & Catering lecturer Paul Plummer for winning the FE/HE Academic of the Year Award at the Kent Teacher Awards 2020! We're so proud of his passion and dedication to our students.

The KM’s Kent Teacher of the Year Awards mark the vital contribution of the teaching staff of the county to developing our young people academically, socially and personally.

Paul Plummer, a Hospitality & Catering lecturer at the College, was the proud winner of the FE/HE Academic of the Year award!

Principal and CEO Simon Cook said “We are so proud of Paul for winning the award for the FE/HE Academic of the Year at the Kent Teacher Awards. He is dedicated and passionate about his craft and industry, and that is shared with such enthusiasm with our Hospitality & Catering students.

The industry experience of our tutors is vital to inspire our students to be the future generation of employees within not only our local communities of Medway and Maidstone, but also nationally.”

Paul said “I feel very honoured and shocked to be a winner for this award. All I do is my job!

I heard about my nomination after an observation during lockdown. This award has given my more confidence in my own teaching ability, but I will always be looking for improvement in my work.

As I’ve been a chef for over 30 years – that makes me a “lifer” in the industry! – it’s where my biggest love lies and I’m keen to pass this passion for cooking and food onto the next generation of chefs.

I would recommend others in the different industries to consider getting into teaching as we always need fresh talent as this can help to mould the future chefs of Britain.”

Well done to Paul! If you're considering transitioning from industry into teaching, check out our vacancies or Teacher Training courses here.
