MidKent College students have shone in this year’s Hotelympia, the UK’s largest food service and hospitality event. It welcomed over 26,000 visitors, and ran for four days in March.
Level 3 Professional Cookery students took part in the International Salon Culinaire competition, a highly regarded event within the industry that has 80 classes to display the best talent.
Throughout their time there, students created their own dishes, courses, and desserts, as well as showcasing their hospitality skills. Their performances were fantastic and they finished with a huge range of certificates – a result for which they should be very proud.
These were their achievements:
Raj Khan & Danny Hibbert Static 4 Course Fine Dining Meal – Merit Award
Christopher Thomas – Bread Display – Certificate of Participation
Amy Fields – Petit Fours – Certificate of Participation
Charlotte Wall – Wedding Cake – Silver medal
Sophie Costin – Dessert Challenge – Merit Award
Greg Swinney – Table Laying –Bronze medal
Martyna Walcyzk – Fish Filleting – Gold Medal
Rebecca Kearton – 3 fish plates – Certificate of Participation
Matyna Walcyzk - Amuse Bouche – Gold Medal
Their tutors who went with them were also very pleased with the outcome. Antony Hopkin, Hospitality and Catering lecturer, said ‘this was the first time the students had competed at this competition, and none of them had any previous experience of the standard required. All of the students applied themselves to their particular entry with great determination and energy. All of the students have since mentioned that they benefited greatly from the experience and would enter this competition again.’
Well done to everyone involved for all their hard work. Pictures are available on our Facebook Page.
