Maidstone Campus Public Services' students benefited from a fantastic visit from Kent Fire and Rescue Service on Wednesday 14 January.
The Service showed the students around a fire appliance and delivered an informative presentation as to the work the Kent Fire and Rescue carry out. Students asked questions about incidents, recruitment and the fire service in general. They were even allowed to try out the equipment and breathing apparatus!
The highlight of the day was definitely the students being able to sit in the cab and activate the lights and sirens - giving other College students a fright!
Organise of the event Sarah Doughty said,
"The students gain much more of an understanding of what it is like to work in the public services if they get to speak to people who are currently doing the job. My aim was to give the students time to see the equipment and uniform up close and also to sit in the fire engine and experience what it might be like to be a firefighter.
They also learnt about the structure of the fire service and what firefighters do other than putting out fires, including community work and collaborating with other emergency services."
Thank you Kent Fire and Rescue - it was one of the highlights of the term for staff and students!
