Congratulating Lydia, Martin French said: 'Lydia is hard working and resourceful. She's been great at working independently on jobs and her carpentry skills are coming along. I'm really proud of how she's doing at college, and she has certainly developed her skills in the past year.'
Her tutor at MidKent College, Chris Dolan said he nominated her for Apprentice of the Month for her excellent start in all aspects. He said: ‘Lydia has demonstrated excellent hand skills when producing joints in timber. Coupled with this she has a very sound understanding and knowledge of the theory-based aspect of the course. Lydia’s excellent attention to detail is evident. She has set a standard for the other students to follow and continues to find ways to improve and enhance her skillset. If she carries on in this manner, I’m sure she will do very well.’
Lydia said: 'Being an apprentice has been an incredibly rewarding experience, providing me with opportunities to grow. I enjoy having access to a well-equipped workshop, where I can work freely and seek advice from experienced individuals who bring diverse perspectives, skills, and techniques to the table. In theory sessions, I appreciate having dedicated time to focus on my coursework and explore new, niche areas of learning through an engaging and clear plan. At work, I feel fortunate to learn from people I admire and to gain exposure to all aspects of the job, including various methods and approaches. This experience has significantly enhanced my skills and understanding of my future craft.'
