MidKent College apprentices have celebrated their success at the 4th Kent & Medway Apprentice Graduation Ceremony at Rochester Cathedral on Friday 14 October.
Jane Burtenshaw, Director of Employer Relations, welcomed the annual ceremony that enables apprentices to be recognised for their continuing education. She said: ‘We are so proud of our apprentices. So often the focus is on students who further their education in the traditional way, and the ceremony for apprentices gives them that equal opportunity to acknowledge their achievements in the same way.’
A record number of apprentices and their friends, family and employers attended the Cathedral setting for the graduation ceremony, reflecting the increasing number of students choosing to combine work with study to reach their higher education goals.
MidKent College’s successful apprentices who attended included:
- Sam Barnden who works for Select Commissioning Ltd and studied for his Level 5 HNC in Construction and Built Environment
- Medway Council employee, Christine Jackson, who studied Accounting to Level 4
- Lisa Fox studied for a Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and works for Soar Trampoline Park Ltd.
- Georgia Chell studied for a Level 3 Assistant Accountant at MidKent College.
- Dominic Down studied for a Level 4 Construction and Built Environment (Surveying) HND (Higher National Diploma)
- Jake Wheatley works for S T Abbott Ltd and studied Level 3 Construction Contracting Operations
- Joseph Warner studied Level 3 Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering and works for the Wire Belt Company Ltd.
The graduation ceremony was organised by KAFEC (Kent Association of Further Education Colleges, with CXK, CEC, Canterbury Christ Church University, FSB, Kent Further Education, KATO, The Education People / KCC, NHS Kent & Medway, Medway Council and Wire Belt Ltd.
Sponsors were Invicta Chamber of Commerce (also sponsors of the reception), Berry Gardens, Kent County Council, Grain LNG, NHS Kent & Medway and The University of Kent.
