We're incredibly proud to announce that Simon Cook, the Principal and Chief Executive of MidKent College, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Greenwich in a special ceremony held at Rochester Cathedral.

He and six other prominent leaders from Medway were honoured by the area’s three universities for their significant contributions to the community.

The University of Greenwich bestows honorary awards on exceptional individuals who have made remarkable contributions in alignment with the university’s vision, mission, principles, and values.

After his nomination, Simon Cook shared his thoughts: “What is really great about this is that it recognises not just the hard work by MidKent College across the campuses that we run, but more importantly, the difference this college makes to people in our community. That makes this special for me.”

Professor Jane Harrington, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Greenwich, expressed her excitement: “We are thrilled to be awarding our honourees today, recognising their contributions to the Medway area as well as to their own areas of expertise. Their pride in Medway and work advocating for the education, creativity and heritage of the area fits perfectly with the goals and values of the University of Greenwich.”

Simon Cook received his honorary doctorate alongside Bill Ferris CBE, former Chief Executive of Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust.

Additionally, five other honorary doctorates recognizing contributions to Medway were awarded by the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University.
