We're proud to launch our South East Institute of Technology (SEIOT) centre, inaugurated at the College's IOT Centre located in the Oakwood Park Complex, Maidstone.

This landmark event marks a significant step forward in advancing educational opportunities tailored to the needs of local employers in the engineering and manufacturing sectors and is the first and only IOT centre in Kent.

IOT launch 2The South East Institute of Technology is a cutting-edge educational partnership of Colleges, Universities and Employers, designed to provide higher-level industrial  training and skills development. Under the Institute of Technology banner, MidKent College is offering specialised courses that cater directly to the demands of the engineering and manufacturing industries. The IOT Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and resources to equip students with the skills required to help businesses thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) such as automation and data exchange in manufacturing technology, machine learning, cyber-physical systems, robotics, materials testing and more.

Speaking at the event, Principal and CEO Simon Cook highlighted the collaborative efforts that lead to the establishment of the IOT. He stated, "We are immensely grateful to the 'friends of the College' who have worked with us in various capacities over the years. Their collective expertise and dedication have been instrumental in building this fantastic resource that will serve businesses and students for the foreseeable future."

The launch event also featured a keynote address by Laura Ellis, Head of Technology Forecasting at the BBC,Laura Ellis who delivered a thought-provoking presentation encouraging guests to embrace technological advancements with confidence and purpose. Her insights underscored the importance of staying ahead in a rapidly evolving technological landscape and inspired attendees to explore new possibilities in the field.

MidKent College is currently accepting applications for places on IOT courses commencing in September 2025. These courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to excel in the engineering and manufacturing sectors. With a strong emphasis on practical training and industry partnerships, the South East Institute of Technology is set to become a cornerstone of vocational education in the region.
