Our Travel and Tourism department arranges a full assessment day for students, built around the tasks and interviews that students can expect to complete when applying to work for airlines and travel companies.
This year for the first time the day was also attended by Public Services students, who often have to complete similar assessment days with employers.
We were pleased to welcome an eagle-eyed panel of judges, all of whom had studied at the College and secured roles in industry, to assess candidates completing a range of team-based activities.
The assessors were looking for teamwork, leadership and communication skills. To ensure the students grasp the benefits of this exercise the assessment was created to mirror real-life settings. Those students who didn’t make it through to the afternoon interview stage were given detailed feedback on why and what they need to work on. Those who made it through to the afternoon interview with the assessors were also then given constructive feedback to help with future situations.
We are always thankful when employers come in to help and inspire our students and equip them with new skills going forward. This can only help build their confidence going into unfamiliar situations, helps them understand what assessors are looking for, and how to stand out as a good candidate!
