Course Description

This couse is a practical introduction into learning about what counselling entails covering areas including ethical frameworks, effective communication skills, therapeutic models for counselling and helping relationships. Designed for those seeking to return to study, change in career path, or thinking of training as a professional counsellor.

This course is designed as ‘a basic generic introduction to counselling for those who have had no previous experience or training in the field of counselling’ with the aim of enabling the participants to make informed career decisions. This qualification does not come with an entitlement or license to practice as a counsellor.

The following three mandatory units must be passed to complete the course:

  • The professional concept of counselling

  • Communication skills in helping relationships

  • An introduction to personal development

    This course will involve experiential learning and self awareness exercises.

Future Prospects

Successful completion of the course may enable the participant to progress onto a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills.

Entry Requirements

Although there is no entry requirement an interview will be part of the induction process.
